You may have heard recently that Capita has experienced an incident of unauthorised access to its computer networks, referred to in the press as a ‘cyber attack’. Capita was the previous administrator for the Kier Group Pension Scheme (“KGPS”), and so the Trustee has been in contact with Capita to understand whether data for those members has been affected.
XPS Administration, the current administrator, has not been impacted.
Members of the Kier Group Pension Scheme
Unfortunately, Capita has confirmed that some personal data for pensioner members of the KGPS who retired before 30 November 2021 has been affected by this incident. We have written to these pensioner members to let them know that their data may have been affected. A copy of this communication can be viewed here. We will update you once we have clarification from Capita about which Scheme members have been affected and which types of data were involved in the incident. Please be assured that monies held in the KGPS have not been affected and, if due, your pensions will continue to be paid.
Members of the May Gurney Pension Scheme and Mouchel Pension Schemes
The May Gurney Pension Scheme, Mouchel Staff Pension Scheme, Mouchel Superannuation Fund, Mouchel Business Services Limited Pension Scheme (Final Salary Section) and Mouchel Business Services Limited Pension Scheme (Money Purchase Section) are not affected by the Capita cyber security incident.
What should you do?
We encourage you to:
- Look out for phishing emails or fraudulent activity on your pension or other online accounts
- Reset passwords on your pension and other online accounts
- Use strong, unique passwords for each online account you have
The Trustee sincerely apologises that this incident has occurred. We take the protection of our members’ data very seriously and we regret that some of our members’ data has been compromised. Capita confirmed to the Trustee that on becoming aware of the incident, it took immediate steps to secure its systems and prevent any further unauthorised access to personal data. We are proactively engaging with Capita in respect of its ongoing investigations and we are doing everything we can, as advised by our lawyers and other professional support, to minimise any further risk to members.
